Last week we made the spontaneous decision to host a pop-up happy hour at our SoDo Espresso Bar.
Located across from the Home Plate entrance of Safeco Field (a bit of a coffee shop dead zone), our building was sparsely populated for quite some time.
In fact, at the very beginning it was just our baristas and a few loyal fans!
However, with the start of 2016, everything changed.
Most floors in our building filled up, we saw massive growth, and those not-so-busy times seem like a distant memory.
As more and more businesses have moved into the building, we’ve extended our hours, bulked up our menu, and hired more staff (Thomas, and Adriene – we love them!). Most importantly, we’ve really gotten to know our growing community of coffee lovers, and we thought it might be nice to throw a small celebratory mixer.
When the sun starts shining and the weather gets warm, we always find ourselves thinking about our favorite warm weather activity – getting outside and throwing the perfect summer party!
Sun shining through the trees, the gentle clink of champagne flutes and silverware, the rich aromas of meat on the grill, and the happy murmur of friends and family alike – celebrating the simple act of being alive.
Light. Laughter. Love.

Picture a bridal paradise.
Sumptuous and sweetly scented floral arrangements, shabby chic displays with pastel paints and glowing fairy lights, richly beautiful gowns of fine silk, organza, and lace, and then of course – there’s the food.
Towering displays of tiny cupcakes, warm fruit pies in every flavor you can imagine (and some that you can’t), thin slices of rich and sumptuous wedding cakes – chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and champagne – and the mouthwatering smell of Mom’s kitchen wafting from various savory bites.

A massive, decadent, beautiful event we attended on January 16th and 17th at the Convention Center in Downtown Seattle. With hundreds of vendors and only two days to see them all, there’s definitely a lot of ground to cover – but everyone we spoke with (and there were quite a few!) had a smile on their face and a twinkle in their eyes.
It’s hard not to smile when surrounded by so many lovely, elegant, and wholly tantalizing options.

Stop by our Cafe in SODO to grab a jar of Chef Maria’s house-made liquor infused cherries!
We start with fresh and juicy Washington Rainier cherries, then preserve them in one of four liquors (Grappa, Brandy, Tequila, or Kirsch). With an authentic recipe straight from Italy – these cherries are sure to please friends and family alike.
Add them to a cheese platter for a burst of unique flavor. Serve them in ice cream, or as a topping on vanilla or chocolate cake. Or even add them to classic, Speakeasy style cocktails such as a Manhattan.
For an extra special occasion, Chef Maria personally suggests dipping them in chocolate for a dessert that is equal parts romance and decadence. These cherries are best enjoyed with good company and are sure to be great talking point at your next gathering.
