Community Spotlight: The King’s Garden

Our business revolves around one simple idea:

Be good to our clients, kind to the earth, and fair to our employees.

We try to implement this concept throughout all levels of the business, but it becomes of the utmost importance when considering our ingredients. We feel strongly that our responsibilities extend far beyond creating meals with the best flavors and highest quality.

We are not only a producer of food, but a consumer of raw ingredients. We purchase thousands of dollars worth of raw ingredients each week, and those decisions affect, not just our clients, but the larger food service economy as a whole.

With this thought in mind, we make extensive efforts to not only buy local whenever possible, but to ensure that each one of our producers uses farming and production methods that are in line with our commitment to sustainability.

The King’s Garden is one such producer, and today we would like to shine the community spotlight on their beautiful produce, farmed organically and sustainably.

Located in the small town of Carlton in North Central Washington, The King’s Garden is largely a one-woman show, with occasional help from WOOFers and other volunteers (Psst: They are currently looking to fill more volunteer positions for the upcoming months).

The produce available through The King’s Garden is absolutely stunning and comes in a fantastic variety: heirloom melons, squash, sweet and hot peppers, beans, beets, peas, greens, potatoes, carrots of every color, onions, cabbage, cucumbers, corn, broccoli, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi, tomatillos…

And that’s just the vegetables! They also produce ground cherries, apples, strawberries, asparagus, raspberries, as well as several types of herbs.

The list goes on an on, but the bottom line is that we absolutely love working with The King’s Garden and are so happy to be on their list of weekly summer stops.

For more information about volunteering, be sure to check out their website. Or if you want to get a taste for yourself, stop by one of our locations on a Thursday (we buy from them on Wednesday) to get a taste of the many dishes we make with these stunning natural gifts.
